Donor-Site Morbidity after Osteocutaneous Free Fibula Transfer: Longitudinal Analysis of Stair Climbing Asymmetry and Functional Outcome

نویسندگان

چکیده

The autologous vascularised free fibula flap is currently considered the best option for facial reconstruction after oncological surgery, but its donor-site morbidity has not been fully examined. purpose was to evaluate changes in temporal and spatial kinematic gait parameters during stair climbing, as well symmetry. Fourteen patients (48 ± 16 years) were evaluated before six months harvest of a flap. Temporal variables both ascent descent phases did change surgery (2-way ANOVA, p > 0.05). During ascent, ankle flexion (healthy side, increased; donor reduced; low effect size) had significant time × side interaction. descent, hip significantly larger on (medium size). Significant interactions observed inversion knee unchanged; Medium sizes found differences (significant). No relevant spatio-temporal nor asymmetry emerged apart from joint kinematics. Overall, only statistically practically meaningful. Considering slight modifications variables, no major functional limitations following climbing descent.

Evaluation of fibula free flap donor site morbidity.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate foot and ankle function in a series of patients undergoing fibula microvascular free tissue transfer. STUDY DESIGN A nonrandomized, nonblinded analysis was performed using the ankle-hindfoot scale as well as radiographic analysis to determine donor site morbidity. RESULTS Overall, foot ankle function was deemed to be good in this series of patients. Average ankle-hindf...

Donor site morbidity following resection of the fibula.

Ten adults were studied two to seven years after resection of a fibula for use as a free vascularised bone graft. Six had no symptoms in the donor leg, four had some aching, weakness or paraesthesia and three had definite weakness of the long toe flexors and extensors. All knees and ankles were clinically and radiologically stable, but the distal fibular remnant was osteoporotic in nine patient...

Donor-site morbidity after free vascularized autogenous fibular transfer: subjective and quantitative analyses.

The purpose of this study was to determine the subjective and quantitative donor-site morbidity after removal of a free vascularized fibula flap for autoreconstruction. Ten patients and six age-matched, healthy control subjects were included in this study. The postoperative periods ranged from 6 to 87 months. Subjective donor-site morbidity was assessed with a patient questionnaire and the Enne...

Functional outcomes of fibula and osteocutaneous forearm free flap reconstruction for segmental mandibular defects.

OBJECTIVE/HYPOTHESIS To demonstrate that the osteocutaneous radial forearm free flap provides equivalent functional outcomes and improved morbidity compared to the fibular free flap in mandibular reconstruction. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective review. METHODS There were 168 patients requiring free flap reconstruction of segmental mandibular defects between January 2001 and December 2008. Mean fo...
